The namesake of Challenger Biosciences, HMS Challenger, was a Victorian-era naval vessel whose 3.5-year voyage of scientific discovery marked the dawn of modern oceanography.

HMS Challenger was also the namesake of the United States Space Shuttle Challenger (OV-099), whose crew of seven perished on January 28, 1986, just 73 seconds after launch.

Our company’s name honors the courage and sacrifice of the crews of HMS Challenger and Shuttle Mission STS-51-L.
